One of the contemporary Poets
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., 1943. Dad comes home from WWII three years later. Lives in Brooklyn until High School when family moves to Long Island. Was a suburban teen-ager in the second half of the Fifties. Was graduated from High School with a D minus average. Accepted to an unaccredited business school in Rhode Island on a probationary program.
Discovered love (of sorts), discovered poetry, discovered heartache. Aced his courses. Transferred to Hofstra.U. Discovered Philosophy, was accepted at CCNY as a graduate student in Philosophy. Dropped out short of a PhD and floated out into the 60’s subculture on the Lower East Side, where he lived with his wife Deborah.
Left the city for Vermont in 1970, lived in the woods off the grid for 30+ years. has one child, Joanna, who is not a child any more. Worked as a farmhand, a logger, a truck driver and a natural foods buyer for our local Coop. That job lasted 16 years. Bought a house in Montpelier 22 years ago. Retired about 10 years ago.
Published “Tablelamp,”a collection of earlier poems, in 2001 and has continued to accumulate poems and stories. In the 80’s, in collaboration with his brother Charlie, produced “Big Fish”, an anthology of local writing and graphic art. Published 13 editions. Here in Montpelier.
